Amending a STAR-compliant Schema
AutoDESA has a well structured set of procedures and documents (shared with financial members only) for the development of interfaces. The process includes an early search for an existing STAR standard or one that if amended, would suit Australian requirements.
NOTE: Amending an existing Schema to suit an Australian user's requirement would render it "non-compliant" and should be avoided. Often, in cases where a desired field is missing, alternate fields can be found within the STAR schema. If this option is unsuitable, there is a process by which a request for amendment may be submitted to STAR.
The Memorandum of Understanding between STAR and AutoDESA allows us to modify STAR Standards 'providing' that we inform STAR about the fact and have discussed it with them prior to the modifications being made. (This usually should only occur after a STAR modification request is rejected). If any member has modified a STAR Standard and has not communicated it to STAR, that member's company has potentially breached any STAR copyright that may exist. AutoDESA encourages all members to follow the defined AutoDESA Procedures to develop and publish an AutoDESA/STAR standard.
If an AutoDESA (or STAR) interface standard schema (either XML or DTS) does not satisfy your requirements, please help our industry work towards the goal of 'adopting standards', by enquiring through AutoDESA about how it may be amended to suit your requirements. It is usually a quick (2-3 weeks) process and often results in significant time-saving in the long run.
